The Gourd Family

Technically, all the vegetables in this chapter are gourds. However, from a colloquial standpoint, the word gourd is used to refer to ornamental squashes that are rarely eaten and primarily reserved for decoration during Halloween and Thanksgiving. Their skin and flesh are much harder and not worth consuming.
