Acer pseudoplatanus The sycamore is a deciduous tree, common throughout the British Isles, occurring in woods, hedges and plantations. It prefers deep, moist, well-drained, rich soils but will grow on all but very poor soils. It flowers from April to June.

Sycamore

The sycamore is believed to have been imported into Britain from France in the Middle Ages. It appears frequently in folklore and tradition but there is one tale told of it by K. M. Briggs in his Folklore of the Cotswolds, 1974, as follows:
