How to Cook a Wolf was first published in 1942, when wartime shortages were at their worst. It was revised by the author in 1951, by the addition of copious marginal notes and footnotes and a special section of additional recipes. These have now been incorporated in their proper places in the text, and are enclosed in brackets, as is, for an example, the Introduction to the Revised Edition that follows.
