About the Author

Jason Goodwin first reached Istanbul in 1990, after covering two thousand miles on foot across Eastern Europe. His account of that journey, On Foot to the Golden Horn, won the John Llewellyn Rhys prize. He went on to write Lords of the Horizons: A History of the Ottoman Empire.

Jason’s detective hero, Yashim, operates in the historic Istanbul of 1836-42. His five adventures have been bestsellers around the world. The Janissary Tree won the coveted Edgar Allen Poe Award for Best Novel in 2007 and books in the series have been translated into 40 languages.
