Chop the dates. Sift together the flour, baking-powder and salt. Add the suet and dates. Add sufficient water to mix to a soft, but firm, dough. Form into a roll and place at the end of a well-floured pudding cloth. Roll up loosely and tie firmly at either end, into a sausage-shape. Drop into boiling water and simmer 2–2½ hr. Serve with custard.
