I am not certain where this torte originated, but a friend of my mother’s in Connecticut makes it for her coffee parties. She gave the recipe to my mother, who had me bake it for her on my last visit. If you like meringues you will love this, and you can indeed forget about it once it goes in the oven, hence the unusual name. See the note on vanilla sugar.
