Method

Hot buttered rum, a true after-watch special, one to remove the chill from your bones, and warm the cockles.

To a generous measure of rum, add a dash of Angostura bitters. Melt a teaspoon of butter and add it to your liquor; then top it up with a tot of piping hot water. Drop in a star anise and a few cloves. Inhale first, then quaff with piratical abandon.
