Griff’s mom always baked a cake at the beginning of each week for her family to snack on. As one of the favorites at the Day household, this recipe was at the front of her recipe box. It’s a simple, quick cake that’s frosted generously with chocolate buttercream.

Method

Position a rack in the middle of the oven and preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter a 9-by-13-by-2-inch baking pan, then line with parchment, leaving an overhang on the two long sides of the pan.
