Use this syrup to create a refreshing mocktail the entire family can enjoy; see the Sweet Note. Of course, you can use it to make an adult beverage too. I can’t resist blackberries, but you can use any fruit you like and even mix fruits too. Try strawberries, raspberries, peaches, rhubarb, or cherries.

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water

Method

Combine the sugar, water, and blackberries in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Turn the heat down to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the fruit is very soft, 20 to 25 minutes.

Remove from the heat and pour through a fine-mesh strainer set over a bowl. Press on the fruit with a wooden spoon to release all the syrup. Let coo
