There are simply no lemons in Brazil, so it is the lime that is the dominant citrus flavor in the food.
Slice the lime in half starting at the stem end. With a sharp paring knife, remove the inner pith core of each half. Slice each half into 3 or 4 pieces. Place the pieces in a blender or food processor with the sugar and 4 to 5 cracked ice cubes. Pulse on and off until the lime is reduced to small green specks.
Add 4 more cracked ice cubes and blend or process for 3 seconds.
