  • About

Marinara sauce doesn’t always have to come from a jar. This simple version is quick to make and puts jarred sauce to shame.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves

Method

Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add onions and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Add tomatoes with their juices, ¼ cup water, herbs, salt, and pepper; simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until tomatoes begin to break down and sauce starts to thicken.
