Although this may seem like an American dish, wild berries like bilberries, whortleberries and blueberries — depending on what part of the country you are in — have been used in pie-making for centuries, and the blueberry is purely the name given to the cultivated version of these wild cousins. So, thanks to Mr Trehane, we don’t have to go out in bushes in search of these rare berries. My preference would be clotted cream to go with these, although a ball of vanilla ice cream wouldn’t go am
