I’ve never been too much of a cake person, but there is something warming about the parkin, hence the old association in the North with eating it on Guy Fawke’s Night. It probably doesn’t get served on that particular night much these days and on the nights I’ve attended bonfire parties with my daughters, Ellie and Lydia, there wasn’t a slice of parkin in sight.
