  • 675 g ( lb) apples
  • 1-2 tablespoons water

Method

Peel, quarter and core the apples, slice them up and put them into a buttered 1.2-litre (2-pint) baking dish with 1-2 tablespoons of water and 25 g (1 oz) of the sugar.

Mix the remaining sugar with the flour, cinnamon, and salt and work in the butter, breaking it up with the fingers until it is like coarse crumbs. Sprinkle the mixture over the top of the apples and
