When Cake Stall was published, the launch party was held in Tiverton’s Angel Bookshop run by my friends Frances and Patrick Hutchinson with their two Burmese cats. I suggested making these waffles with my portable electric iron for the guests, who were mainly my cake-stall customers from the Pannier Market around the corner. A table selling made-to-order vanilla-scented waffles is a reliable way of raising funds at a fête or bazaar.
