In A Room of One’s Own, Virginia Woolf concedes that ‘there are people whose charity embraces even the prune.’ I’m fairly charitable about prunes, particularly in the spiced filling known as lekvar which I’ve combined with crushed amaretti biscuits and a layer of wine cream to give a distinctive and attractive flavour to this cake. Lekvar is an Eastern European word for a fruit butter and could apply to any fruit. The Slovaks, however, seem to be particularly fond of pr
