My friend Heidi Butler, from michigan, is an enthusiastic rhubarb experimenter. She’s lucky to live in a part of the country where, as I understand the local ordinances, every family is required by law to cultivate a patch of rhubarb in their backyard, and rhubarb clumps for planting are heavily subsidized by a benevolent state government.
