Doughnuts Filled with Caramel Applesauce

This is an ideal activity for cooking with children. Adults will need to make the caramel, but children over the age of about 7 should be able to help with the applesauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 cooking apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 12 ready-made or store-bought small doughnuts
  • 1 recipe quantity of

Method

Put the apples in a pan with some water and cook until soft. Transfer to a blender and reduce to a purée. Let cool completely.

Using a sharp knife, bore a hole in the doughnuts.

Using the syringe or pastry bag, inject the doughnuts with some of the caramel sauce, followed by some of the applesauce. (You can now see where separate syringes, or pastry bags, for the caramel and app
