In spite of its name, this tart is made with “golden syrup,” a british product you may be able to find in specialty stores, but, if not, use corn or maple syrup. Treacle tart is a classic dessert in an age-old tradition of comfort food.

Method

To make the pasty, mix the butter, flour, and sugar together in a food processor, or in a mixing bowl, using your fingertips to combine, until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Make a hollow in the center and pour in sufficient chilled water to make a dough. Shape into a ball, cover with plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
