  • ½ lb. plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon

Method

Sift the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together into a bowl. Rub in the lard until the mixture is crumbly. Add the water and stir to make a soft dough. Knead lightly on a floured board, adding a little more flour if necessary. Pinch off pieces of dough (about 2 tablespoons each) and roll into balls. Flatten into circles about ½-inch thick. Fry in a little hot oil in a large, heavy frying
