We started serving treacle soda bread in our second week of opening the restaurant, and it was an instant hit – to this day it’s still the first thing you get when you sit down. It’s very easy to make and the sweetness of the bread makes a perfect combination with a smoky mackerel pâté.

Ingredients

Smoked Mackerel Pâté

  • 200 g smoked mackerel
  • 100 g cream cheese
  • 10

Method

Remove any skin or bones from the smoked mackerel, then put it into a blender with the cream cheese. Blitz until you have a rough pâté – it doesn’t need to be smooth. Transfer to a mixing bowl.

Finely chop the dill leaves and add to the mackerel pâté along with the lemon zest and juice. Fold through the crème fraîche.
