Method

The main impurity is sand, which settles to the bottom of the water used for soaking.

Soak the dry tree fungus in water. As it softens, it swells. Work the fungus with the fingers to loosen the impurities. In about 30 minutes the fungus will have reached its maximum size (three times the original volume). Lift it out, rinse it well and shake off excess water.
