Filled with nuts and raisins, this pastry roll is served with a smooth, warm sauce flavored with Jack Daniel’s whiskey. The recipe comes from Miss Mary Bobo’s Boarding House in Lynchburg, Tennessee. “This is a wonderful old Tennessee dessert that we still serve,” says the proprietress, Lynne Tolley.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raisins
  • cup (5⅓ tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted

Method

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the raisins with water to cover and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Remove from the heat and drain thoroughly. Transfer the raisins to a small bowl, add the butter, sugar, cinnamon and pecans and mix until blended. Set the mixture aside to cool completely.
