This simple chocolate sauce shows off a good-quality semisweet or bittersweet chocolate.

Ingredients

  • 10 ounces bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, cut into small pieces
  • ½ cup milk or more, to thin if necessary<

Method

  1. In a small bowl, combine chocolate and milk and melt gently in a barely simmering water bath, or microwave on medium (50%) for about 2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Add additional tablespoons of milk as necessary if sauce looks either curdled or too thick. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
