Indian pudding is not an original Indian recipe but rather takes its name from its use of cornmeal, which was called Indian meal by the early colonists to avoid confusion with wheat. It is still going strong in New England and if you like milk puddings you should try it. It is particularly good served warm with brandy butter or vanilla ice cream.
