  1. Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder. In a bowl, beat the butter with a wooden spoon or electric beaters until smooth. Add the sugar gradually to the butter, beating continuously until pale and creamy. Pour in the egg, a little at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the almond essence.
