A chewy and buttery cookie, with a hint of orange and vanilla, to which you can add nuts, chocolate chips and sunflower seeds.


  • 125 g (4 oz) plain flour
  • ½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda


  1. Preheat the oven to moderate 180°C (350°F/Gas 4). Line two baking trays with baking paper. Sift together the flour, bicarbonate of soda, baking powder and salt.
  2. Cream together the sugars and butter. Add the egg, vanilla and milk, and beat until smooth.
