Lekvar Squares

This is another old-fashioned Hungarian favorite shared by my friend Nancy Berzinec. Lekvar is prune butter and if it is available in a supermarket where you live it might be under that name. This is a cookie for die-hard prune lovers—like me. If you’re not sure where you stand on prunes try these cookies and I’ll bet you become a convert. If you don’t like prunes at all, you may substitute apricot lekvar with equally good results.
