This was sent to me by a reader whose name got separated from the recipe, but I tried the cookies, and they were terrific! They have an old-fashioned tender texture and stay quite moist if you keep them airtight. Thank you, whoever you are.

As a variation, you might want to finish these with confectioners’ sugar icing.
