Please the crowd—take a big kettle of this to the Sunday school picnic


  • lbs. boneless beef
  • 3 tblsp. melted shortening or beef fat, more if needed


  • Cut beef in 4″ pieces; brown well in shortening or beef fat. Add to 3 c. water and simmer until tender, about 2 hours. Remove beef from cooking liquid and put through coarse blade of food chopper.
  • Combine beef with remaining ingredients. Add enough of the cooking liquid to make filling moist but spreadable (about 2 c.)
  • Heat filling and serve between ham
