If your family doesn’t fancy turnips, try this and win them over


  • 3 c. sliced peeled turnips
  • ¼ c. butter or regular margarine
  • ¼ c. flour
  • c. light cream
  • 1 c. shredded process cheese
  • 1 tblsp. minced chives


  • Cook sliced turnips in boiling salted water 8 to 10 minutes. Drain; cover to keep hot.
  • Melt butter in saucepan; stir in flour. Add cream; cook, stirring, until thickened. Add cheese, and stir until melted.
  • Add turnips to sauce. Sprinkle with chives.
