A sandwich special from the heart of apple land—Washington State

Ingredients

  • ½ c. butter or regular margarine
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs, unbeaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • tblsp. dairy sour cream
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 c. chopped unpeeled apples

Method

  • Cut butter into sugar; add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Blend in vanilla and sour cream.
  • Sift together dry ingredients; add nuts. Combine with first mixture. Stir in apples. Pour into greased 9 x 5 x 3″ loaf pan or 2 small loaf pans.
  • Bake in slow oven (325°) about 1 hour.
