Americanized Norwegian favorite —bake either on griddle or waffle iron


  • c. buttermilk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • ¼ c. melted shortening
  • c. sifted flour
  • 1 tblsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 3 egg whites, beaten stiff


  • Combine buttermilk, yolks and shortening in bowl.
  • Sift together dry ingredients and add buttermilk mixture, stirring only until smooth. Fold in egg whites.
  • Bake on lightly greased hot griddle, using 2 tblsp. batter for each cake and browning on both sides.
