The perfect selection for an oven meal—good cinnamon-apple flavor

  • 5 c. sliced, peeled, firm cooking apples
  • c. water
  • ¼ tsp. ground cloves
  • ½ c. quick-cooking tapioca
  • ½ c. red cinnamon candies (red hots)
  • ½ c. sugar
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ¼ c. butter
  • ¼ c. lemon juice

  • Arrange apples in a greased 3-qt. casserole.
  • Combine water, cloves, tapioca, candies, sugar and salt and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Continue cooking at hard boil for 1 minute.
  • Remove from heat; add butter and lemon juice; stir until butter melts.
  • Pour over apples. Cover and bake in moderate oven (375°) about 45 minutes, or until apples are tender. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream sprinkled lightly with cinnamon.
