Syrup sinks to bottom and cocoa cake rises to top during baking

Ingredients

  • 1 c. sifted flour
  • ¾ c. sugar
  • tblsp. cocoa
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 2 tblsp. melted butter
  • ¾ c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • ¾ c. chopped nuts
  • ½ c. chocolate syrup
  • 1 c. hot water

Method

  • Sift together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder and salt Add butter, milk, vanilla and nuts. Stir until well mixed. Pour into greased 8" square baking pan.
  • Mix chocolate syrup and hot water. Pour over batter in pan.
  • Bake in moderate oven (350°) 35 minutes.
