Fruited cake bakes in layers—you put them together and frost in white

Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter
  • c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 c. sifted cake flour
  • 1 tblsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. milk
  • ½ c. raisins
  • 1 c. dried currants
  • 1 c. finely cut citron
  • 1 tblsp. molasses
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • Butter Frosting

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs.
  • Sift flour with baking powder; add alternately with milk to creamed mixture, beating until well blended.
  • Pour 2⅔ c. batter into a greased and floured 9" round layer cake pan. Add remaining ingredients, except frosting, to rest of batter. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9" round layer cake pans.
  • Bake in moderate oven (350°) about 35 minutes. Cool; put layers together and frost cake’s sides and top with Butter Frosting.
