Country pie to eat with a spoon—it’s juicy, mellow and spiced just right


Pastry for 1-crust pie

  • 1 c. sugar
  • ¼ c. flour
  • ½ tsp


  • Combine sugar (amount of sugar depends on tartness of apples, but you may need 1½ c.), flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in 9" square pan. Add apples and lemon juice. Stir to combine. Dot with butter and top with pastry, rolled 1" larger than top of pan. Cut steam vents; trim and flute edge just inside edge of pan. Or pull points of fluting over outer rim of pan to fasten c
