Ingredients

  • 6 peeled medium tart apples, cut in eighths
  • ½ c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ½ c. water
  • 3 tblsp. butter or regular margarine
  • ¼ c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  • ½ c. sifted flour
  • ½ tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt

Method

  • Mix apple slices with ½ c. sugar, cinnamon and water in saucepan. Cook about 10 minutes or until apples are partially cooked. Turn into 9" pie pan.
  • Cream butter; gradually cream in brown sugar. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture and mix thoroughly with spoon. Sprinkle over the apples.
  • Bake in moderate oven (350°) about 45 minutes, until apples are tender and top nicely browned. If desired, serve with whipped dessert topping.
