Combine 1 c. sifted flour and ½ tsp. salt; cut in ⅓ c. shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add ¼ c. grated Cheddar cheese and toss to blend. Add 2 tblsp. water gradually to form a dough that holds together.
