Ingredients: 1 c. light raisins; 1 c. grated peeled apples; ½ tsp. ground nutmeg; 1 tsp. ground cloves; 1 tsp. ground cinnamon; ½ tsp. salt; 1 tsp. baking soda; 2¼ c. sifted flour; 1 egg; 1⅓ c. brown sugar, firmly packed; ½ c. shortening; Caramel Icing; ½ c. apple juice; 1 c. chopped walnuts

Ingredients

½ c. shortening
1⅓ c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg

Method

Cream shortening, sugar and egg until light and fluffy. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. When well blended, stir in remaining ingredients, except icing.
Drop by level tablespoonfuls 3" apart onto greased baking sheet. Bake in moderate oven (350°) about 12 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Remove cookies and cool on racks. When
