Bake at serving time—nothing is better than cookies warm from oven

Ingredients

  • c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • tsp. salt
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 c. quick-cooking rolled oats

Method

  • Sift together flour, soda and salt
  • Cream shortening; add sugars gradually; beat until light; add eggs and vanilla.
  • Combine sifted dry ingredients and creamed mixture; blend thoroughly. Add oats.
  • Shape dough into rolls 2" in diameter. Wrap tightly in waxed paper and chill thoroughly.
  • Cut into ⅛" slices; bake 1½" apart on ungreased baking sheet in hot oven (400°) 6 to 8 minutes. Remove cookies and cool on racks.
