  • Crunchy walnuts coat buttery candy
  • c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • ½ c. sugar


  • Combine sugars and syrup in 3-qt. heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Cook until syrup reaches firm ball stage (245°) and is thick.
  • Add butter, stirring to melt. Slowly add evaporated milk so mixture continues to boil, stirring constantly. Continue cooking until mixture again reaches 245°. Remove from heat, add vanilla and salt.
