Corn Cake as in Transdanubia

Ingredients

  • 15 squares
  • 2 cups sieved fine-ground cornmeal
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 3 ounces sweet butter, softened
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • cups milk
  • 2 ounces butter for pan

Method

  1. Mix cornmeal with sugar, softened butter and salt.
  2. Bring milk to a boil. Pour it on top of cornmeal mixture and mix well. Let it rest for 2 to 3 hours. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  3. Butter a baking pan 13 by 9 inches with remaining butter. Pour in the thickened mixture. Bake to a golden-red color.
  4. Cut it into squares.
