Chapatis are the simplest form of wholemeal Indian bread and are eaten with almost all the curries. You tear bits off them and use them as a scoop for mopping up the juices. They are fun to make and my children love them spread with butter and jam for tea!
Put the flour and salt into a bowl. Add enough water to form a rather soft and sticky dough. Knead well for 8-10 minutes, folding and kneading with the palm of the hand. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and leave to rest for at least half an hour.
Knead the dough again, form into balls the size of ping-pong balls, flatten slightly and dip in a little more of the wholewheat flour. Roll
