To me this dal, scooped over a mound of steamed rice and enjoyed with a basket of Papads, makes a perfect simple meal, especially after a day of eating junk food. I love the creamy texture of these black lentils, but if you don’t happen to have any in your pantry, use the equally quick-cooking skinned split green lentils (moong dal) for a satisfying alternative.
