This isn’t, strictly speaking, a plain cake since it has a form of icing, but I can’t help feeling that its loafiness counts for a lot. Of course, you could cook this (for slightly less time) in a square, 18cm tin, cutting the syrup-drenched sponge into smaller squares later.
