Well, all chutneys contain spices, but the intense, hot flavours in this chutney are the focus. I sneered when Hettie suggested this when we had a tree full of apples that I was letting rot, but she was right. The idea of apple chutney may seem unappealing – I just thought of it as grainy mush – but the taste is out of this world. I now cannot eat a Cornish pasty without it.
