Cioppino, a rich, flavorful fish stew, is a dish closely identified with San Francisco. Though some think that it was invented there, most food historians believe that it came to the City by the Bay via early Italian fishermen who emigrated there from northern Italy, specifically Genoa. The name itself is thought to have come from the Genovese word ciuppin or giuppin, and in fact may be simply a corruption of the Genovese word suppin, which translates to “little soup” o
