It was to secure a shipment of breadfruit plants for the West Indian colonies that Captain Bligh sailed the Bounty to the South Pacific in the first place. The famous story of the mutiny on the Bounty has been well documented and romanticised. Breadfruit, which is now a staple in the Caribbean, was finally brought from Tahiti to Jamaica by Captain Bligh in 1793 and from there this starchy fruit was introduced around the islands.
