You can make this on a stovetop gas fire or on a coal-pot or barbecue. What you need is a low, open fire. Choose a semi-ripe breadfruit, not a soft one. If you have any leftovers, see Fried Roasted Breadfruit.

Ingredients

  • 1 semi-ripe breadfruit
  • butter

Method

  1. Cut out the stem of the breadfruit and place stem-down on a medium fire. Keep turning until evenly charred on all sides.
  2. You should finish with the stem up and the whole breadfruit blackened. When it is done (about 45–60 minutes), steam should be seen coming out of the opening. A knife pushed in should come out clean.
